Regarding a Recent Event
Posted

I recently vended at an event in Clarksville and had no indication that the event was tied to a specific group. After the event was over, I learned that it was actually a fundraiser for a conservative religious group whose values greatly oppose my own and are harmful to people I care about, as the group excludes people based on how they identify, who they love, or how they dress.
I want to be very clear: I do not support that religious group or their values, and I deeply regret that my participation may have suggested otherwise. I continue to support equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and protections for marginalized communities, and will not be vending at that event in the future.
Most of the events I participate in are hosted by schools or community organizations that are supportive—or at the very least, neutral—when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Going forward, I’ll be doing more research into where event proceeds go to make sure the groups I support align with my values.
Supporting my community through my work is important to me and I will continue to fight for inclusion, human rights, and equity for all.
